Essential Duas for Umrah – Arabic, Transliteration & Meaning

Umrah is a deeply spiritual journey for Muslims, offering a unique opportunity to cleanse the soul, seek forgiveness, and draw closer to Allah. Unlike Hajj, Umrah can be performed any time of the year and consists of specific rituals such as Ihram, Tawaf, Sa’i, and shaving or trimming the hair. One of the most important aspects of performing Umrah is making duas (supplications) throughout the journey.

In this blog post, we will guide you through the essential duas for Umrah, including the Arabic text, transliteration, and English meaning. Whether you’re a first-time pilgrim or have performed Umrah before, this guide will help you stay connected with your spiritual goals during your pilgrimage.

📌 What is the Importance of Duas in Umrah?

Dua is the essence of worship in Islam. During Umrah, your heart is in a state of humility and submission to Allah, making it the perfect time to make heartfelt supplications. While there are some recommended duas for each stage of Umrah, you are also encouraged to make personal duas in your own language.

🕌 Duas Before Leaving for Umrah

1. Dua for Intention (Niyyah)

Transliteration:
Allahumma inni ureedul-‘umrata fayassirha li wa taqabbalha minni

Meaning:
“O Allah, I intend to perform Umrah, so make it easy for me and accept it from me.”

🧼 Dua for Wearing Ihram

When you are about to enter the state of Ihram, you make the intention for Umrah and recite the Talbiyah.

2. Talbiyah

Transliteration:
Labbayka Allahumma labbayk. Labbayka laa sharika laka labbayk. Innal-hamda wan-ni‘mata laka wal-mulk, laa sharika lak.

Meaning:
“Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Verily all praise, grace, and sovereignty belong to You. You have no partner.”

🔗 Tip: Continue reciting the Talbiyah frequently until you begin your Tawaf.

🕋 Duas During Tawaf (Circumambulation)

You begin Tawaf at the Black Stone (Hajr al-Aswad) and complete seven circuits around the Kaaba.

3. Dua at the Black Stone

Transliteration:
Bismillah, Allahu Akbar

Meaning:
“In the name of Allah, Allah is the Greatest.”

💡 You may say this every time you reach the Black Stone.

4. General Dua During Tawaf

There is no fixed dua for each round of Tawaf, but here is a beautiful one you can repeat:

Transliteration:
Rabbana atina fi’d-dunya hasanah wa fi’l-akhirati hasanah wa qina ‘adhab an-nar

Meaning:
“Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and save us from the punishment of the Fire.”

🤲 You can make personal duas in your language as well – ask Allah for forgiveness, health, family, and guidance.

🏃‍♂️ Duas During Sa’i (Walking between Safa and Marwah)

Begin at Safa Hill, walk towards Marwah, and complete seven rounds.

5. Dua When Climbing Safa

Transliteration:
Inna as-Safa wal-Marwata min sha’a’irillah...

(This is a longer verse from Surah Al-Baqarah [2:158]; reciting the full verse is encouraged, but it is sufficient to say this part at the beginning.)

6. Dua on Safa and Marwah

Transliteration:
Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, la ilaha illa Allah, wahdahu la sharika lahu...

Meaning:
“Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner...”

Repeat this dua three times, and then make your personal supplications.

✂️ Dua After Sa’i and Before Cutting Hair

7. Dua Before Cutting Hair

Although there’s no specific dua, it’s recommended to make a heartfelt prayer asking Allah to accept your Umrah.

Suggested Dua:

Transliteration:
Allahumma taqabbal ‘umrati waghfir li wa li-walidayya

Meaning:
“O Allah, accept my Umrah and forgive me and my parents.”

✂️ For men: Shaving the head (halq) is preferred.
💇 For women: Trim a fingertip-length from the end of the hair.
